High on Low Expectations

Much like our show last week where we weren't entirely sure how much we would be able to talk about the Vancouver Golden Eyes and the lead up to their preseason, which doesn't start for two more months, essentially.

It's this time in November.

We have to wait till...

But news did break middle of the week that the Vancouver Golden Eyes now have a general manager.

Allison Izzy is the new GM taking over from Cara Gardner-Moray, who removed the general manager's hat and put on the head coach hat.

She'll be behind the bench.

Or helmet.

Fair play.

But Alison comes to the team with quite a bit of administrative experience, and I mean administrative in, like, the operations back end, the legal side.

She has worked with the AHL, the NHL.

She was last clerking with the NHL legal department.

It does seem

like governance is, yeah, a strong point for her.

It gives me confidence.

It does.

Like I am a firm believer that it is important to have someone that understands the business and the business side of things.

I do wonder on the hockey operations side.

how much knowledge she has in that space.

So I think, you know, it'll be interesting to see if there are any additional hires that will be working with her, though the PWHL structure is quite a bit different than what we've come to know with the NHL.

And I'm not trying to suggest she doesn't know the game.

It's just when you do look at her resume, her experiences with the business end, the actual sort of legal operational matters.

I don't, as opposed to the player ops.

Yeah.

And obviously you've got to balance both the GM.

It's interesting coming into such a new league and what she'll bring from that, like more, you know, she's been in the, in the league.
