Ottawa Senators

So it's gonna be a huge tournament, uh, to watch as, as far as, uh, future stars of the league here.

And the other big one is the Canadian Prospect Challenge, which is, uh, gonna be in Gatineau, uh, this year, where we have all of the Eastern or mid to Eastern [laughs] Canadian teams covered here, where we have the Leafs, the, uh, Montreal Canadiens, we have the Ottawa Senators and Winnipeg Jets.

And so they've got a two-day challenge this weekend and, you know, that's where we're gonna see Gavin McKenna for the first time.

Yeah.

... are they trying to get out of him in, in these games.

I'm sure that'll be dissected by nobody, [laughs] you know, uh, uh, looking at, at these games.

But, you know, it- he'll be going up against the Ottawa Senators rookies on Saturday and the Jets rookies on Sunday, and you have to think the Senators rookies are going to be at, in a very interesting, uh, predicament here as, as far as that goes.

And, uh, we- we'll see how he does, and then we'll see, uh, in terms of the preseason, the, if he plays all four of the preseason games for the Leafs, which you have to think he'll at least play the home games, but we'll see what happens with the, the road games there as well.

Uh, by my senior year in high school, basically the only thing I was being used on was the penalty kill, and we were pretty effective.

So I'm gonna say I could probably run at least as good of a penalty kill as Ian Laperriere, who, if we remember that wonderful moment in, uh [laughs] in hockey social media history, when a bunch of Ottawa Senators were in the back of a cab talking all that crap on their coaching staff and specifically what they were being told to do on the penalty kill, and then they actually look up the stats on their phones and say, "We're only wor- The only team worse than us is the Flyers".

I'm not giving Ian Laperriere that power.

I'm not saying we would be good.

Yeah.

Senators 95 and a half.

They finished with 99 last year.

Mm-hmm.

if they're fourth in this division I, I would not be surprised at all.

The l- I mean, they have the, the Senators, the Leafs, and the Sabres all at 95 and a half.

Uh, Drake Batherson, extension talks with the Ottawa Senators.

Uh, they wanna work out a long-term deal that keeps him there.

They're working towards it.

We'll go to another topic, but I'll give you a little nibble.

He might have previously played for the Ottawa Senators at poi- some point in his life.

Okay.

Oh, no.

It's now called the Sontra Slush Puppy.

And coming up this weekend, you've got the four-team tournament that involves the Montreal Canadiens, the Leafs, the Winnipeg Jets, and the Ottawa Senators.

The Leafs will take on the Senators on Saturday, the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday, and we are assuming that Gavin McKenna is going to get the jump into at least one of those games, obviously just one game for Gavin McKenna.

But boy, oh boy, we can't wait to see what this kid's got to offer, even in just a prospect tournament, Gord.

played one game and then they they're like okay well i don't know if we want to risk this you're clearly better than everybody here and i think that's what the outcome would be with gavin mckenna present because like him or not i mean the guy's the number one overall pick and i think he's going to be a heck of a player in the national hockey league so if you've identified that he's going to be a big part of your team you want him on that first power play unit yada yada yada whatever you may think I think you better prioritize getting him ready with the group that he's going to go into the season with as opposed to guys that he's not going to be playing with because there's a lot of catching up to do.

Yeah, and the four teams, by the way, taking part in the NHL Prospect Challenge in Gatineau are the Maple Leafs, the Winnipeg Jets, the Ottawa Senators, and the Montreal Canadiens.

And it's taking place at the Slush Puppy Center.

Hmm.

If it got to this point where he was still on this team, you have to strip him of the C.

But here's the thing, look at the Ottawa Senators, for example, right? They traded their captain in Brady Tkachuk because they made a decision saying, "All of this, too much noise.

We don't want this in the room.

We don't want this poison in the room," right? "When the season starts next year, we wanna focus on our ultimate goal." Well, guess what, Red Wings fans? You have that in your room for the foreseeable future 'cause you don't have a general manager to make that move.
