But the Patriots want to pay their guys.
So I guess what I'm asking you guys is, normally the Patriots have a pattern.
They spend big one year, then they go down.
They got two tight ends.
Like, they spent a lot of money that season.
Yep, who's a free agent right now.
And then the next year, last year, they went and spent big money, right? Generally, after they spend money, they tail it off.
But this year, it's going up.
And I like a team when you lose a Super Bowl and you go back out, right? Kind of like motivation, something we thought the Red Sox would do this year.
Historically, teams who have lost the Super Bowl do better the next year than the team who won the Super Bowl.
There you go.
That's kind of the way it's gone.
I guess I want to leave this conversation to what's behind it.

So, like, I just look at it and say, are the Patriots setting the market on some of these guys? Or is it more about they're going for it? I want to hear your guys take on why they're going for it.

You can't get to the Super Bowl and then not retain the players that helped you get to the Super Bowl.
I think to outperform any and all expectations and to have Christian Gonzalez in particular be the guy that helped get you there.
He was their best player in the AFC Championship game.
