044: To B or Not to B.: B.Slade Didn’t Leave the Church — He Left the Box

What happens when one of the most gifted artists to come out of the Black church finally stops trying to fit inside a box he was never created for? On this episode of Bonnerfide Conversations, Gerard Bonner sits down with the incomparable B.Slade for a powerful conversation about faith, freedom, creativity, church culture, and the cost of becoming who you really are. B.Slade opens up about growing up apostolic, experiencing the raw power of the Holy Ghost, and carrying that sound, conviction, and fire into every genre he touches. He also speaks honestly about the tension of being called, gifted, misunderstood, and placed in roles he never asked for. This conversation goes far beyond music. Gerard and B.Slade talk about the sacredness of the Black church experience, whether cameras have changed the safety of worship, why some breakthroughs were never meant to become social media content, and what the modern church may have lost by removing testimony, order, and true spiritual freedom. B.Slade also reflects on leaving pastoring, moving to Los Angeles, rebuilding his career, creating his own industry, and stepping fully into the artist, believer, fashion visionary, and apostolic rock star he always knew he was called to be. This is a conversation about not abandoning your faith, but refusing to let people weaponize it against your freedom. It is about being too big for one genre. Too honest for one box. And too anointed to keep shrinking so other people can understand you. A Member of the Bonnerfide Podcast Network
