Um, and I know from, from other wars and when rape is used as a weapon of war, there's so much stigma, and that they remain victims and outcasts even after the horrors have gone away.

What we learned clearly was you can legislate anything in a peace agreement.

And the only way you can address them was to hang this on the community leaders and the traditional elders, that this work continues, doesn't go away.

And then, of course, creating opportunities for learning, either back to school or for learning some skill for the girls.

So there are many initiatives that, uh, were supported by the international community to give those girls some employable skills.

I haven't been back to Sierra Leone for a long time, but I can only hope that many of the girls who passed through, uh, that experience were able to rebuild their lives.
