Managing Chronic Pain with Dr. Sanjay Gupta

[audience applauding] Thank you.

And thank you, Sanjay-

Thank you

... for coming in.

Already student fans have been coming up, and I'm of course one of your longtime fans.

Uh, when you say it doesn't have to hurt, I felt that way about working at CNN sometimes.

[laughs]

But you were the salve.

You were the person I'd go to and always smile.

A great writer of many books, which are out there for you to buy, but this latest one is On Pain.

You talked about it, uh, three years ago.

We talked about it, and I still have the most basic question, which is why does pain exist?

Great, great question.

Great, great place to start.

If I can, for just a second-

Sure

... thank you for inviting me to this, and just point out as well that I think you're, you're a large part of the reason that I'm a writer.

Uh, I was at CNN.

You could've been a successful neurosurgeon-

I could have been

... and your mom is still mad at me.

[laughs]

Tw- tw- twenty-five years ago, I still remember I was sitting on the set at CNN, and Walter was running the whole place, and I did a live shot of some sort, and you came down and you said, "Hey, would you like to write for Time Magazine?" And I said, "A- absolutely." And you ki- you kinda launched my career.

You introduced me to Priscilla Painton and, uh-

Who's here, right?
