The sins against the Holy Spirit.

You know, the Bible speaks about sin, and we may take all of the sins that are discussed in the Bible and narrow them down to just three categories.

There are those sins that are forgiven.

Like Nathan confronted David with his sin with Bathsheba and the cover-up and the resulting murder of Uriah and so on.

And David said to Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord.

And Nathan said to David, the Lord also hath put away thy sin.

Thou shalt not die.

His sin was forgiven.

So there's one category, sins that have been forgiven or pardoned.

Another category may be those sins that can be forgiven, may be forgiven, but are not yet forgiven because the conditions of pardon have not yet been met.

Peter preached to the Jews, repent and turn again that your sins may be blotted out.

In Acts chapter 3 and verse 19, and John wrote in 1 John 1 and verse 9, if we can confess our sins, then our sins will be forgiven.

And then the third category is that unpardonable sin or the unforgivable sin that Jesus mentioned in Matthew chapter 12 and verse 32.

And the Bible also tells us against whom or against what we may sin.

For example, there are those sins against God.

In the Old Testament, idolatry was said to be a sin against God in Exodus chapter 23 and verse 33.

And Genesis 39 and verse 3.

Joseph said to Potiphar's wife when she appealed to him over and over again to sleep with her, he said, how can I do this thing and sin against God? So there are sins against God.

There are also sins that men may commit against children.

When in Egypt, Reuben reminded his brothers, didn't I tell you not to do this thing and sin against the child? Talking about their settling their brother into slavery.

There are also sins against the commandment of the Lord, as they are called in Leviticus 4 and verse 2.

And the Bible warns us about sins against another, as they are called in 1 Samuel 2 and verse 25.

Jonathan pleaded with Saul not to sin against David in 1 Samuel 19.

And 1 Corinthians chapter 8 and verse 12 cautions us about sins against our own brethren, the weaker brethren.

There are sins against one's own body.

Fornication is a sin against one's own body according to 1 Corinthians 6 and verse 18.

There were sins against Jesus Christ that ended in his being crucified.

And there is that sin against the Holy Spirit Mentioned in Matthew 12 and other passages as the teaching of Jesus is related to us in the accounts of the gospel.

Now tonight's lesson has to do with sins men commit against the Holy Spirit.
