He was a powerful Praetorian prefect, and he was, um, the, one of the emperor's, uh, confidants and bodyguard, and he hated the Jews.

Um, he was later executed for treason in AD 31, so just after-- Sorry, just before the, the things that we've been reading about.

Um, and then there's Pontius Pilate, who was a procurator or prefect of, um, Judea between AD 26 and AD 36, so about 10 years in office, and he was accountable to Tiberius, obviously, the top man, via Sejanus, who, remember, hated the Jews.

It's only got little bits of text, and it goes roughly like this: "To the divine Augusti Tiberium...

Um, a real person, like you and me, was Pilate, with strength and weaknesses, like you and me, with ambitions and fears, like you and me.

In his early years, um, he, he did quite a few things that sort of provoked the Jews, but he kind of got away with it 'cause his boss between him and the, and the real boss right at the top also hated the Jews, so it wasn't so difficult to do.

He, uh, raided the kitty of the temple, the, the treasury of the temple, took all the money out from there to build an aqueduct.

Um, now, an aqueduct's probably a good idea, but I'm not sure that the Jews were best pleased that he took the money from the, from the temple treasury, um, to do that.

The other thing he did was he brought some imperial shields which had engraved images and stuff like that, and he hung them in the, in the, in Herod's palace.

Well, that didn't please the Jews, partly 'cause they had engraved images on them and partly because, "Hey, this is, this is the palace of our king, not of your..." Um, and so, uh, after a bit of an uproar, he was forced to take those down, um, back down again.
