When something comes in your mind, how does it come from your mind and then on to a canvas?
So I saw a thing where my work was translucent and I could see that the light changed when it went through the artwork.
So at Concordia College, I had an exhibition and I literally, there was this much light coming through one of my works and it changed because one side was pink, one side was blue, I was inside, the sun came through this one little spot and it turned purple.
It's about, it's a kind of visual representation of optimism and of light coming through darkness.
And so it took me two years of failure to figure out how to make the thing I could imagine.
I wanted to do something that was very large scale that had light coming from underneath it, but I'd never worked with light.
So I iterated and iterated and finally came onto a custom-made plexiglass vitrine, adhering the painted material on to the box, and then doing these big panels with like 150 LED lights behind them.
Like if I see and know I can do a thing, I'm going to keep fighting for that thing until it gets fully realized.
I saw it a year ago and I'm on my eighth iteration of it and I still don't quite have what I want because I can't quite source exactly what it is.
So sometimes I see a thing and then I have to build backwards from it and it might take a year or two or four.
