A proposed bond package for the city of San Antonio next year could be more than $600 million, nearly half of the last bond package in 2022.

TPR's Joey Palacios reports the city is considering raising stormwater fees on SAWS bills to pay for some projects.

The bond package would fund projects like streets, sidewalks, parks, city facilities, drainage, and affordable housing.

The city's bond capacity without raising property taxes is about $442 million.

San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones says due to limited bond capacity, the city should consider not including outside agencies in bond projects.
We should just say, frankly manage people's time and save them an email or two that, you know, they're not gonna be considered as part of this bond in, in light of where we're at and in light of the great need in, in our community.

There's a possibility the bond could go as high as $617 million with an increase on stormwater fees.

If the council decides to increase them, it would add about 84 cents to monthly bills over five years.

Whatever projects and costs the council agrees on after community input would need to be decided by February in order to be on the May 2027 ballot.
