Iain and JB look ahead to Rangers welcoming Kilmarnock to Ibrox on Saturday, asking if Rangers are ready to go again after going into the international break in fine form. The guys will chat about…
The first question I was going to come to, JB, is how David McInnes approaches this.
We'll go through his press conference chat and a little bit about some injury news that we got, but Big Phil kicks us off with, do we start with two strikers? Is this just going to be more of the same? He's filled a system that works, run with that until it doesn't.
For me, yeah, I think so.
It's a tricky one because we do know that the two up front does tend to work well against good teams.
Or when I say good teams, teams with better players, shall we say.
If you think about when we had the success even last season under Danny Rule, it was very much when we came up against Hearts.
When we came up against Celtic, we tended to go with the two up top and it tended to work quite well.
But then naturally, when we've seen it in a few of the earlier games this season, it hasn't worked so well, shall we say, despite it creating chances.
But Kidd has made the point, didn't he, after one of the games saying, well, there you go.
It's the first time I haven't played with two strikers and we've we've created the most chances scored the most goals wherever it might have been so yeah for me i think the team is suited to that i think everybody knows their role um and also taking back the slight difference to the probably the start of the season teams that the players are playing with a lot more confidence and i think the most important thing is there's a lot more energy within the team that probably wasn't there at the start of the season if you think of the likes of minsu that's come in penrice has brought a lot of energy uh stalin's bringing up quite a lot of energy with his physical dominance mccann has brought another player that's really comfortable on the ball the midfield feels a wee bit more settled so yeah i think you've got i think you've got two because if if we don't and we try and go to more of a four three three and try and worry about the the low block too much i think it could probably disrupt uh the good work that we've seen over the last the previous few weeks
My only thing is that with the Celtic game and the Motherwell game before that, we didn't have much possession in these games.
I think we actually had more possession at Celtic Park, the funny way it played out.
But it was all about one-for-one defending, man-for-man stuff all over the pitch.
I don't think you can play like that against a team like Kilmarnock coming to Ibrox.
I think we'll have... more of the ball and that's where Rangers are a bit questionable I think it's fair to say do you think this is more about a change of style we need to see now a dominant team who create loads of chances loads of xg and score loads of goals is Derek McInnes got that in him
I would say
chances.
There was obviously one or two, there's been ones where you can't, but we're not actually creating too much.
If you think about, again, going back to earlier in the season, the European games, Dundee United away, these type of games, you're going, we're not creating nothing, we don't look like a team, we don't look like anyone knows what they're doing.
