Life of Messiah 53 The Sermon on the Mount Part 9 Salt of the Earth Matthew 5:13

We are still working our way through the Sermon on the Mount.

It's one of the longest sermons that we have recorded for us in the Gospels, and that should tell us something about the importance of it.

Now, there are many famous speeches and sermons that people know very well in this world today.

However, for us as believers, our familiarity with the Sermon on the Mount should be above any other thing that we know.

However, unfortunately, that is not often the case, is it? For the last seven weeks, we've been working our way slowly through the beginning section of that sermon, which is called the Beatitudes.

The Beatitudes is a word that means the blessings, or the word literally means happy.

That's what it means.

It's Jesus's direction on how to be happy and blessed, and the word means an inward satisfaction in the soul, ultimately, and how to be happy and blessed in this world.

And as we read through those, as we've studied them, we've seen that the direction Jesus gives us is often so often in direct opposition to the way the world tells you to be happy.

And hopefully we all have a deeper understanding of them now.

Too often we think of those Beatitudes maybe just as disconnected sentences, wise sayings, a little bit like the Proverbs.

However, we've shown hopefully that is not how the structure operates.

of the Beatitudes is.

They are, in fact, a series of detailed and interconnected sayings that build up to a crescendo, and we've gone through all of them.

I'll recap them very briefly for you now, because this next portion of Scripture is very much related to them too.
