This week's chronicles of Out of Context, your hosts are taking a break from their usual rants about pop culture or some other nonsense. Instead, you're going to get to know your hosts a little better…
So this is a question.
This one's in my phone because it's something that kind of stuck with me.
Uh, So whoever wants to go first, either Adrian or Dakota, I will go last here.
I'll go last with each of these questions that I ask here.
You know, what's a sentence that someone said to you at any point in your life that has always stuck with you? If there's any context or reasoning as to why that sentence has stuck with you.
If none of you can go first, I will go first.
I'm going to need a minute here.
Okay.
Um, Okay, simple one.
I was told this in my 20s and it set everything up moving forward.
No matter what you do in life, someone's not going to like you.
So are you going to focus on the people that do like you or are you going to focus on people that don't like you? And after that, that kind of set the tone because I was always such a people pleaser in my youth because I always strive for people to like me because I wasn't a popular kid.
I wasn't, you know, the best spoken, the best dressed, etiquette, hygiene, stuff like that.
So I overcompensated, you know, by helping people out with everything I possibly could and just wanted to be liked, wanted to be part of the group, wanted to be their friend, stuff like that.
But then, you know, someone just told me that phrase.
And after that, I'm like, okay, I'm all about me now.
And I will... take care of the people I care about, but I won't stretch myself thin for other people that really don't appreciate it.
Okay, good.
Dakota, are you ready?
I am pulling from, now this isn't someone I personally know, but can we pull from film and television here? Yeah,
it can be anything that's basically kind of stuck with you that you kind of think back to.
I think back often to the – it's the more modern Rocky movie, Sylvester Stallone, where he's talking to the grown-up version of his son where they're out in the street, and they're having that conversation.
He's like, it's not about how hard you get hit by life because life's going to hit you.
It's always going to hit you.
It's about how hard you can get hit and get back up and keep going.
So this is a question.
