A lot of generous Christians have a question they have not quite answered for themselves. They want to give faithfully, and they also know tax incentives can change what their giving makes possible…
And today we are asking a simple but honest question: Is it okay for my generosity to depend on tax incentives? [lip smack] All right, Eric, I wanted to open up by asking that question.
I hope we can do a good job of exploring the different, the different aspects of this, 'cause certainly, a saving taxes is something we all love to do.
I haven't met anyone who doesn't like to save on their tax bill, and it's certainly s- part of the conversation I'm having with people every day in the work that I'm doing.
So yeah, I think it is important to just sort of take a breath and say, "Okay, what is the appropriate place for this? How should we be thinking about this? Uh, what role does it have in our heart and in our practical...
" One thing I wanna point out at the beginning, though, Katie, is I think the question collapses a couple of definitions, and I'm not sure we should collapse, uh...
In other words, g- generosity goes way beyond charitable donations, right? So the tax-
I think it would be a mistake to, to equate or say that those are syn- this, uh, generosity is synonymous with charitable giving.
