Preparing Utility Workers Before the Storm

If you're not talking about the heat, you must live in Alaska.

It's hot everywhere right now.

It is.

Extremely heat throughout the United States.

And just in time for summer, um, the Biden-era heat standard that's been much discussed, um, it...

The fate of it is, is in doubt.

You know? It's in doubt.

The House Education and Workforce Committee recently passed a bill along party lines 18 to 15 to stop the multi-year effort.

Now, I wanna warn everybody up front, just because there's not a heat standard doesn't mean you don't have a responsibility to protect your workers from the heat.

Right?

That's right.

That-

Still, I mean, the s- the general duty clause is still out there, right?

We're not gonna-

And it's still a recognized workplace hazard

...

And many states have their own individual plans.

So, um, I think the, the issue was some of the language related to acclimatization, um, that, that was a big one for some of us that live in, in historically hot states is to defining what acclimatization means, but that's, that's for another episode.

But you have to take care of your workers when it comes to heat.

Yeah.

Riff from the headline.

Well, I'll, I'll say this, James.

D- you know, if people wanna learn more about this, I did an article on this exact thing about the, the vote and where the standard, uh, is, and boy, it got a lot of traction out there.

So if you wanna go and, and learn a little bit more about this, I have a, an article on my LinkedIn, um, exactly on this.

And, um, I'm gonna use, I'm gonna use the heat, uh, as a segue to the weather for the topic of this, this episode.
