Sacramento Republic FC picked up a statement 3–2 road win over New Mexico United, and The Quail Call breaks down what stood out; from Memo Rodriguez’s huge performance to Sacramento’s tactical…
Yeah.
I think most importantly what we saw was a team that was to do whatever it took to get three points.
Um, I think when you're up two-nothing, you're starting to feel like, "Okay, this is gonna be, you know, get our three points pretty easy and everything," and, and didn't turn out that way.
But in many ways, uh, it became a test and a, a test the team passed.
Coincidence or not, I interviewed him last week.
Got a brace and an assist just last week.
Um, so we might be talking more to him.
Uh, maybe we'll talk to Jennings.
I don't know.
We'll, we'll get some people rolling.
But he has definitely, uh, raised his game to another level.
And I think much like we always speak of Jack Gur being one of the best in the league at his position, I think it's safe to say that Memo is as well.
And I think he's one of those guys that, uh, since he's new maybe, he hasn't been super, uh, vocal in the community.
But when you talk to him, he's a very well-spoken guy.
He is a seasoned professional.
And if you look at his, uh, resume, you know, he's played at a high level, um, for a long time.
So I don't think any of us were surprised by it.
But I think that seeing what he's done, um, is probably what we expected.
Like, now we're like, "Okay, this is that guy that was, you know, an MLS All-Star at one point." And, and you know, what, what he brought to us is, is really considerable.
So we still don't have, uh, Mack or Benitez there.
But I also think I was talking to, uh, Ryan number one before we got on about, uh, the kinda next man up sort of, uh, philosophy.
And I really felt that Collins didn't seem incredibly confident about a lot of players on the bench.
And seeing Willy and Spalding in particular, who didn't start the previous game, start this game and make contributions.
Uh, you know, Willy drawing the, uh, the penalty, uh, this, you know, the earlier part of the game that gave us the initial lead.
Yeah.
