In the season finale of the Mechanism Podcast, Vincent Sagisi and Andrew Dahlgren of Mechanism reflect on the biggest themes from their conversations across the textile and soft goods industry this…
I, I have to say, every interview I heard, every conversation, every episode really taught me something.
Like, I, I was kinda surprised at how much I took away from, from all the different voices we heard and all the different contributors.
I think two kinda themes, I wouldn't say maybe favorite moments, but two themes that really stuck with me after listening to everything was it's really moving and exciting to think of everyone as part of a larger movement, kind of working-- In some cases, they are working in direct solidarity with people in the s- in the buildings and spaces they're working in, but then also they're, yeah, in solidarity with others working towards the same things and wanting the same things and trying to build this new system.
So I'm gonna say it was, uh, really inspiring and moving and, and the other kind of element that really stuck with me, too, was hearing how those businesses that integrate worker voice actually are better at business, um, which in my mind was this kind of counterintuitive thing we hear time and time again that, like, workers are, are meant to just sort of show up, do their job, and go home and not complain and not have a voice.
And yet we hear these examples of, like, when you have a very different approach, when you actually think about supporting your workers, it pays off in, in, in so many different ways.
So, um, so yeah, I would say solidarity and, and actually, like, doing better business really stuck with me through, th- through all the, uh, conversations.
It was cool too, because I-- A lot of the folks we interviewed are in my periphery, but I'm not there on a day-to-day basis, so it's not always easy to get a grasp on the work that they're doing, like boots on the ground.
So it was just great to hear p- from people directly and get s- get that real insider scoop, so I hope that came through for the listeners as well.
So we're gonna take a brief break, and we will discuss some more emerging themes in the series when we return.
