He's in a ton of stuff.
I recognize him right away.
He has a hundred and sixty-seven credits.
And as our episode begins, we are outside the newsroom panning in.
In the episode, Ted is giving the news.
The Miss World Universe contest is gonna be in Jacot-- Um, they have new contestants coming from Jakarta, Morocco, Mexico, Venezuela, not to mention Minneapolis, St. Paul, and our own Donna Jean Spillneck.
And Murray asks, "What's wrong with Ted tonight?" Mary says, "What do you mean? He hasn't made a single mistake the entire show." And Murray says, "Yes, I know.
That's exactly what I mean.
Something is definitely wrong.
I wonder what and how long we can make it last." Mary says, "I don't know.
He just seems preoccupied all day.
Every few minutes, he keeps on asking if his brother has called." Murray didn't know Ted had a brother, and Mary says, "Just because he has a brother doesn't mean they're anything alike." And on cue, Hal walks in, introducing himself to Mary, and Mary says, "You must be Ted's brother." And Hal says, "No, Ted is my brother." Murray excuses himself, and Mary extends her hand to be a handshake but ends up kissing her hand aggressively.
Hal sa-- sees that Ted is broadcasting the news, makes a comment about how old he looks, and Mary tries to defend him and explain that he's not old, he looks great.
And Hal asks, "What is it he does? Sportscaster? Wa-weatherman?" Mary says, "No, he's the anchorman." And Hal says, "Ted must have got the job because he has seniority." And Mary says, "No, he got it because he's very good at what he does." But she says it trying not to choke on her own words, and Hal is shocked to hear that.
And Mary says, "Why do you look so familiar? Are you an actor?" And finally, Mary realizes he's an actor, and he does commercials.
And Hal does a joke, not too many people recognize him without his plastic something or other.
And Mary's describing different commercials that he's done, including something to clear his head.
And he introduces himself again to Mary, holding onto her hand and crawling his fingers up her arm, which she quickly pulls away and rubs her arm, clearly uncomfortable.
And Hal asks Mary how much Ted makes, just as Ted comes walking out the door, and apparently it's been five years since they've seen each other.
Ted excuses himself and wa-- talks through the door, "Lou, did you clear things up?" And Ted walks right into Lou's office, and then privately, Lou asks Ted what he's yelling about, and Ted says, "Oh, nothing, nothing." And Ted is trying to explain that, you know, there's really two Ted Baxters.
One's sensitive and serious.
And Lou says, "Well, whichever Ted Baxter is here, could he get to the point?" And Ted says, "Well, my brother's here.
He's outside there, and he's always coming on like he's better than me." And Lou doesn't really have much to respond to other than he could be onto something.
And Ted wants to ask a favor, a little favor of Lou.
