112: AboveTheDave shares the time he randomly became the lighting guy for a band called Fartbarf. Then ATD tells you the story of when he felt his first earthquake. Plus, Scott LeChomperé plays us…
I spent many years, uh, 13, I think, in Los Angeles, which is a terrible place if you wanna see a lot of jam bands.
Uh, I was performing stand-up comedy, and working a variety of jobs, and dating a ton, and, uh, yeah, just basically being there for my entire 30s, and had some great times, had some hard times.
But my buddy, my good friend, who actually officiated my wedding, Alex, uh, he ran a great comedy show called Crave, and he would put together these shows, and it was a comedy and rave.
I think I did the first one of his Craves, and it's followed by an, an actual rave with DJs and everything, the whole, in a, in a, in like a warehouse-type situation.
Um, so with themes and everything, and so I would, I would contribute over the years, uh, at these incredible shows with amazing just guests.
Uh, not only getting to see them perform, but then fucking taking molly, dancing all night with them, and having fun talks and stuff like that.
I wanna say it was at the, one of the first Craves that featured, where Alex booked a act, it was a band from Long Beach, California, and their name is Fartbarf, which, r- I mean, holy shit.
So Fartbarf, I was like, I-I, y- I don't think a band has ever named themselves a name that immediately set the bar [chuckles] so low f-for them being good.
Like, you expect the band Fartbarf to, like, pr- pretty much blow, I think, right? I mean, that's what I was kinda going in with.
Like, what am I getting into here? Like, they're just gonna be a bunch of fucking clowns.
