The dual meaning of Sukkot (booths?! Divine protection?!) gets an even bigger meaning when we think about our growing community. Consider that the ancient Priestly class likely added a theological layer to a preexisting activity, and you get an understanding of Sukkot that combines the spiritual, historical and practical layers of the utterly nonsensical holiday that is Sukkot. And also, shaking a lemon for God. In this episode, we talk about the Sukkot party you may have (probably) missed, our future as a community, and *simchateinu* -- our joy. **Donate To Bayit:** https://kehillahrva.org/donate/ **Learn more about Sukkot:** https://www.thetorah.com/article/the-sukkah-and-its-symbolism **Learn more about Commonwealth Autism:** https://www.commonwealthautism.org/ Got questions? Patrick BeaulierHost

1:44

Maybe you couldn't come to the Sukkot Shabbat.

Patrick BeaulierHost

1:46

That's okay.

But you want to dwell in the Sukkah.

Patrick BeaulierHost

1:50

We could do that.

Patrick BeaulierHost

1:52

Maybe this is you sitting in traffic.

Patrick BeaulierHost

1:56

Maybe this is you taking some me time, whatever this is.

Patrick BeaulierHost

2:00

Hey, I'm just glad you're here.

Patrick BeaulierHost

2:01

So take a deep breath in.

Patrick BeaulierHost

2:04

Exhale.

Patrick BeaulierHost

2:05

Okay.

Patrick BeaulierHost

2:06

And these words come from...

Patrick BeaulierHost

Rabbi Jeffrey L. Rubenstein.

Patrick BeaulierHost

Powerful rituals and symbols have multiple meanings.

Patrick BeaulierHost

2:16

The ritual experiences entailed in the interpretations of Sukkot by Rabbi Akiva and Rabbi Eliezer are not mutually exclusive, especially over the course of a seven or eight day festival where we have time to focus more than one theme.

Patrick BeaulierHost

2:34

On this festival of Sukkot, May we merit experiencing the Sukkah both as a symbol of the clouds of glory and as a reenactment of the real Sukkot in the Exodus.

Patrick BeaulierHost

2:48

Amen, amen.
