A Canaanite woman from the vicinity came to him, crying out, 'Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.'" Okay, so Jesus has been talking with Pharisees.

To get away from the crowds maybe, or to get away from the debating, but he's trying to go somewhere else to get away.

So he, here he is, and he's in an area where a Canaanite woman comes and speaks to him.

It's interesting that this word "Canaanite" is used, because the word that was used in this time was Syrophoenician.

Canaanite comes from the Old Testament, so Matthew is using a word that reminds the Jewish people of their enemies.

That's interesting, that she comes from a group of people that are or were, that were the enemies of the Jewish people.

She cries out to him, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me!" So "Son of David" means that Jesus is in the line or lineage of David, his ancestor, if you go all the way back, is David.

So it's interesting that, um, this woman, who's from a people that were considered enemies to Jewish people, she's the one that says, "Lord, Son of David," to Jesus.

So it goes on, and we see that, um, she says, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly." Okay, she talks about her daughter and that "demon-possessed." Her daughter has demons inside of her, that they are possessing her, they're taking control of her, of her daughter.
