Today’s Topics: 1, 2, 3, 4) Do you find that there is tragedy in your life? Do you feel God has abandoned you? How do we make sense of God working in our lives when there is so much pain? Let’s find…
I know, folks, it's interesting with today's day and age, our modern technology, all of our social media, we start to really form ideas about life, about what life should be like.
And one of the things that I think has social media has done, which is human nature.
We start to compare ourselves to everybody else in the world and ask ourselves, how am I doing today? based on how other people are doing we've always had the term you know keeping up with the joneses the grass is greener on the other side we're always comparing and looking at trying to better ourselves however we do it by looking at what's going on in my neighbor's life and that can be a bit of a challenge It can be a bit of a challenge for many, many reasons, mostly because I always tell my friends, you know, imagination is usually worse than the reality, meaning that we start to see other people's lives and we very, very quickly form an opinion as to how perfect their life is, how not perfect it is.
And it's a very challenging way to live because we never feel like anything is good enough.
They look at their social media page and people have actually gotten very, very depressed or they go through periods in their life where they feel that they're not good enough and they start to feel hopeless because they look on their social media sites and they see pictures of their friends.
They're on vacation, they're in front of the beach, they're somewhere that would be considered exotic or somewhere so beautiful and traveling and doing all these things.
That old adage of one picture is worth a thousand words is very true, but how accurate are these pictures? How accurate are these lives that are being portrayed? That can be the challenge because we see this And we imagine that we are not good enough anymore, that our life is not worth living anymore, that, you know, everybody else has this perfect life and I am failing.
One of the biggest challenges with this is that it can lead to feelings of depression, feelings of inadequacy.
And then how do we treat that? The first thing I usually tell people is we need to treat it with a big dose of reality and a big dose of asking ourselves, what are our expectations in life? An example I have for you, there was a patient that came to me one time and unfortunately they found out that they had kidney disease and a pretty severe form of kidney disease where they were going to need dialysis.
Once you start finding out that you have kidney disease, your kidneys are breaking down, it is a very, very serious disability and you do usually have to go for dialysis if the kidneys are bad enough.
