If you’ve ever wondered why smart, grown women are out here writing 120 chapters of Jarlena angst, this episode is for you. Rachael, Jenn, and guest Sion get into how fanfic pulled them in, the…
So Jen, do you want to kind of take us through what fan fic is for those who don't know 100% what it might be?
Yeah.
It's basically people who take a show or a couple or a fandom of some kind and basically write their own works of fiction about it.
Uh-huh.
They may take part of the canon of it, so you're gonna have different types.
Fan fiction really is a woman-led space, so you're gonna see majority of writers of it are women, and majority of people who consume it are women.
I, again, we've talked about this on previous episodes, I can't think of a writer in our fandom who is male.
No, I can't.
We do have males in our fandom, but I, I don't think any of them write fan fiction, and none of them really talk about it as if they read it.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
I'm gonna be honest.
Mm-hmm.
It gets to that point.
And as women, we use that part of our brain for that kind of stuff.
Uh, we don't tend to do the visual when it comes to sexy time.
We tend to like things that involve more active parts of our brain.
So this kind of goes right up your alley, and when you're talking about fan fiction, right, it's usually a fandom that you're in, so you've bonded with the characters in it, which I think could also be a neurospicy thing too, but-
Mm-hmm
...
so it's a lot easier to go there with it.
[upbeat music] So different types of fan fic.
