ESPN's John Buccigross on Werenski: "I was pretty pissed." | Cannon Balls

There's Ethan Belchats from Windsor, a big forward who's been sliding, was predicted to go in the top 10.

And there's Oscar Hemming.

whom apparently they had circled as their primary target.

John, they went with Oscar Hemming, a 6'4", 210 forward from Finland, who just played a partial season at Boston College.

Your thoughts on that choice on Belchets and Oscar Hemming?

Yeah, I don't know Belchets well outside the video.

I did Oscar Hemming one of his first or second college game.

He joined Boston College midseason as a 17-year-old.

He was 17 for his first college hockey season, and he was very noticeable.

He was confrontational, which you don't see a lot in college hockey.

You don't see a lot of scrums, which I like, and he was fully involved with that.

He does have a set of hands they think maybe can result in being a goal scorer a little bit as well.

So I like the player a lot from what I saw as a 17-year-old.

It's hard to play college hockey at 17.

And I'm really looking forward to this year to see how he develops.

But big body, good spirit about him.

I like his personality.

So I think I could see him as being a real menacing four-checker down the road.

You know, Jordan Martinuk, kind of a guy that can be an energizer, get pucks, dog on a bone, and maybe even have a little better scoring touch than a Martinuk who wouldn't be more in that, you know, mid-20s area and be a really, you know, almost like a Matthew Nyes.

Interesting to see how he develops his offensive game, but almost like a Nyes character.

they remarked about his skating and his ceiling, which, of course, points to a higher ceiling.

Any thoughts there, John?

Yeah, just again, what will he be when he's 23 years old? I mean, he's a boy now, and he looks like a man.

That's what

they say.
