Okay, so before the break, I said to you, "Negative people." When I said those two words, was there a particular person that immediately dropped- jumped into your mind? Think about it.
When you hear of a negative person, do you have that one person in your life that if you're going to be socializing with them or, or coming in contact with them, you almost have to sort of prepare yourself for the environment, the atmosphere, the commentary that, that you're going to be faced with with that person? Does that hit you? I bring this up because I had something happen earlier this week personally, that really hurt.
And I don't think this person had that intention, but it was the way that the commentary was delivered.
And there's something...
There, there's, uh, there's a fundraising project that I have been working on now for a couple months, okay? And I'm very proud of it.
And I presented it to a group of people, and this one person had a very negative, uh, reaction or comment.
And it just completely b- caught me off guard 'cause I thought, "You know what? This is something very dear to me.
I've worked very hard on this, and this is the reaction." And it got me to thinking about negative people.
We are surrounded by negativity.
Whether you turn on the news and there's angry people talking about politics, or there's another school shooting, or there's another terrible crime somewhere, we're surrounded by it.
And it's very disheartening when something is being done to help, and some people's reactions take the negative direction.
So how do you handle that? How do you handle it? So when thinking about it, I said, "You know what? I can't control other people's attitudes." I have to realize that's just one voice in the room, and to avoid that voice.
Again, how do you handle negative people? 1-800-624-1170, the McCarter Law phone line.
Or you can email sam@iheartmedia.com. Because I have gotten to the point in my life, at my age, which I'm not gonna tell you what that age is, where I have decided that I'm either going to set boundaries with certain people, I'm not going to feed into it, I'm not going to let it fester within me, even though I'm doing a commentary on it this morning.
But then I'm not gonna let it eat away with me, at me, because it's not a reflection on me.
It's a reflection on that person, or any person that I come in contact with.
'Cause everybody has people in their lives where you could talk about and say, "You know what? I just got a new puppy," right? Who doesn't love getting a new puppy? Or just had a new niece.
You know, let's talk about like something that's just- A wonderful thing to happen in somebody's life.
There's always gonna be that one person that says, "Oh, a new puppy.
Well, they're gonna chew up all your shoes, and probably it's gonna take you forever to house train them." They can't help themselves.
They can't help themselves from not resisting the negative angle at any type of subject.
But you as an individual, and me as myself, y- you have to learn when to say, "I'm gonna take you and put you in this box, and you're gonna stay in that box.
And I'm only gonna open that box when it's absolutely necessary, because I don't need that in my life." And there is only so much time that we're given on this planet.
And with that, you have to make the decision of what stays and what goes, and who you're gonna cut out.
Otis, have you made the decision to remove certain people or avoid certain people or incidents or things like that to just say, "I, I don't need this"?
