Gary Washburn and A. Sherrod Blakely react to the Celtics’ season-opening 121-113 loss to the Pistons after Boston blew a 22-point second-half lead. They break down Jayson Tatum’s difficult shooting…
Celtics lose the opener at Detroit, 121-113, led by as many as 22 points in the third quarter.
But the only thing that really seemed to be working the Celtics way was Paul George, who had a game-high 38 points, which is incredible.
And I guess the thing that – there's a lot of things that really jumped out to me about this one, Gary.
But I'm just curious, what stood out to you about this game, particularly the factor or factors that you believe were most significant to Celtics' blow in this game?
Yeah, Sherrod, I feel like they, for two and a half quarters, were the better team.
And so suddenly it was 72-50 to 74-59, and that's a completely different score midway through the third quarter in the NBA.
So you can focus on the 72-50, but I look at the 74-59 because the Celtics allowed, I think, two three-pointers, and then Jalen Duren – who just – they don't – the Celtics got to figure out what to do with that dude if they ever make the playoffs.
So I think that they just let their foot off the gas, and then they pulled Paul George out of the game.
