This episode is part 13 in a study of the book of Exodus. We finish up this 4 chapter section of laws with laws about justice, mercy, the sabbath, and festivals…
When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd, and do not show favoritism to a poor person in a lawsuit.
If you come across your enemy's ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to return it.
If you see the donkey of someone else who hates you fall down under its load, do not leave it there.
Have nothing to do with a false charge, and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty.
Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe binds those who see and twist the words of the innocent.
And a lot of this here is just let your justice be just, right? The measure of justice is, is something the law, then it's the law for the people I hate as well as the people I love.
I'm not taking bribes if I'm the judge or if I'm a witness or if I'm, uh, doing anything regarding this case.
It starts here, "Do not spread false reports." And that's not just in court, but that can be online as well.
If you're being so lazy as not to look up to see if it's false before you spread it, you're spreading false reports.
"Do not help a guilty person by being a malicious witness." Don't, don't lie about what you see.
"Don't follow the crowd in doing wrong." Again, let your justice be justice.
