NOA NOA (Part 2)

I had met Jeff on several records.

He's a great studio guitarist.

And we were simpatico.

We were both vegetarians, which was rare in those years.

And he played on most of the records that I made with Rob Mouncey.

He and Rob Mouncey were in a band also.

And I had mentioned this whole project to him just in passing, and he said he had just built a little studio, not little, it was, I think, a 24-track studio in his apartment.

And he said, oh, well, you know, I was saying I thought I should make more demos.

There were some tunes that were new that I hadn't written so far.

I recorded, you know, my early demos.

So he said, well, why don't you want to do it here? And I said, yeah, great.

And he also was, you know, in contact with a lot of other singers.

And so he was the ideal person to work with on that project.

And he did a really great job.

He sort of sequenced everything and then played beautiful guitar stuff through it all.

And he was really helpful getting a great cast of singers together.

Mark Cohn sang the Gauguin part, and he was fabulous.

And my old friend Will Lee, who had played on so many of my records and had a great background, vocalist on all of them too, most of them, He sang a couple of different parts.

And then a great background singer I had worked with named Casey Sissick, who unfortunately has long since passed, but she was one of the first-called jingle-type singers and background singers.

She sang the Met Gauguin part, which was a big part, I thought.

So I kind of cherry-picked things from the first act because I couldn't really afford to do all of it.

Okay, so then you had two sets of demos, right?

Right.

I decided I would compile the demos using some of the guitar vocal demos that I made years, the 37 or 38 year old cassette demos.

And so I did put the acts, I had a little bit more in this work I did with Jeff Marinoff, I had some of the second act tunes.
