But the big question I want to ask this morning, how are you doing with prayer? If you've stayed around long enough or just looked around and in the middle of all of this, maybe the big question today is how are you doing with prayer? Or maybe first, do you even know how to pray? Because in Luke 11 and verse 1, Jesus' disciples come to meet him.

What I want to speak to you on for a topic this morning is getting right by praying right.

And all I'm hoping for is that we would be maybe rightly instructed in the things of prayer, but particularly my burden is that we will be inspired maybe just a little more wherever you are on your journey um towards this thing of prayer if you're new with us we have been on this series where we're kind of going over a number of christian basics we started in week one um talking in a conversation of how we become christians we called it becoming right with god and we try to drill in on the whole idea of salvation and righteousness and then in week two we talked about you know the grace of god how we can be rightly positioned for all of God and so we linked in between grace and faith and then in week three we tried to drill into our Christian heart test and we took money as an example of that how God tests us to bring us into more and so in week three we talked about why do money matters matter today we're going to see one of the cardinal things in our Christian faith that helps us to stay on course and to stay on the journey that God calls us to and then next week I'm hoping to be able to round this series off together talking around the concept of discipleship but Jesus taught us that And he showed the essentiality of prayer while he was on earth.

He didn't just teach it, but when you look through the life of Jesus, he modeled a great light of prayer.

I would say today that prayer is one of the ways that we, honestly as Christians, express our dependence on God.

that in a living active way we through prayer realize man we really can't do this life by ourselves we are dependent on god it's one of the greatest privileges that is known to mankind that we can honestly be in conversation with the almighty this is huge it's like a big privilege and the truth is this whatever you say maybe you wake up and say things like i'm really not into the whole prayer thing i'm not the praying type i'm you know i'm shy like a baby christian and all of that see the truth is this last last we cannot avoid it we we can't be christians without this we can't make it through our christian journey without prayer so we better be getting it right if you follow up jesus we must be growing in the adventure of prayer we must be growing in it we can't give excuses there's no sidestepping it you there are things that you can say i'm not a fan of this i'm not but when it comes to prayer and that journey of engaging god of a people that are dependent on god we really can't um avoid it and To be honest, if I go this morning and try and show you from Scripture the power of prayer and what important it is, I'm sure there are many things I'll say that you're like, yes, I know.

You know, we can give all the acronyms for what prayer is and, you know, talk about how powerful and share testimony.

And the truth is, I don't know about you, but the truth is, I'm always like, yes, I know.

That Jesus started with prayer and with prayer and prayer is the master key and i know i know but sometimes i then ask myself when i know all of this why don't i why don't i pray or okay maybe why don't i pray as much as i want to pray i'm not sure i've ever met a christian that feels they pray enough there's always just that sense of i want more why don't i pray as much as i want to pray There's a guy who wrote a hymn.

And he did say that he composed the hymn for his mother who was going through a lot of trouble.
