It's a turning point because immediately after this declaration of faith, as we will see next week, Jesus for the first time will announce his passion.
And this is the climax of that revelation, which comes through the faith of Peter.
What has he come to do exactly? And of course, if he's the Christ, the Messiah, he's come to save his people.
And he will then, immediately after this confession, lay out his plan of how he's going to save his people.
And that's where it's not going to go so well, as we shall see next week.
But for this week, this pivotal moment, of this declaration of faith, the disciples have seen and heard enough to be able to sort of make up their mind at the minute of who Jesus actually is.
He's not asking this question after this, his first miracle.
He has spoken an awful lot.
He has done an awful lot of signs.
And now he's asking for their opinion, for their, much more than an opinion actually, for their faith.
He's inviting their faith.
And this is in the north on the other side of the Jordan, equivalent of Galilee on the other side.
It's in the country of Dan.
So we can see Caesarea Philippi.
