It's the end of chapter 13, and it's the end of these parables, three parables in this short passage.
And here Jesus continues after having introduced the parable method, as it were, of, of preaching.
Having introduced the parables at the beginning of chapter 13 for the first time in the Parable of the Sower, and then giving us a whole range of parables, which you saw last week, which we had on Sunday.
What is interesting in here is that in the gospel, we actually see that Jesus had left the crowd to explain just before that the parable of the weeds.
Verse 36, "Then he left the crowd and went into the house.
His disciples came to him and said, 'Explain to us the parable.'" That was the weeds and the, and the darnel which we had last week.
And the thing is, we don't know whether the crowds are back or not.
So when it says, "Jesus said to the crowds," that's, if you want, as the introduction that the church has given us in the lectionary, and it's part of the verse that was there just before.
But before, Jesus went into the house, so we don't know who he's addressing himself to, in fact.
We don't know whether he's saying it to the whole-- all the crowds, so everybody, or whether he's saying it just to his disciples.
But from the text itself, it seems like he's saying it just to the disciples, and that's something interesting because he's not giving them an explanation too much.
I mean, he does give them explanation for the dragnet.
He's not giving an explanation for the treasure and for the pearl.
