In the first verse of today's psalm, three things stand out.

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we've heard repeated a thousand times.
Love, joy, and peace, got it here somewhere.
Recently, John, our vicar, not the apostle, asked us to commit to memory a particular verse from the prophet Isaiah.
You may remember it.
He said, do not be afraid.
Why? Three things.
I have redeemed you.
I have called you by name.
You are mine.
The three things in
our verse today, the beginning of the psalm, The three things are light, we've heard a lot about it so far, and salvation and strength.
The verse in full reads, The Lord is my light and my salvation.
Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life.
Of whom shall I be afraid? The word light appears over and over again in the Bible.
My school motto was, fiat lux, for you Latin scholars, it means, let there be light.
And in the earliest verses of scripture we read, and God said, let there be light.
And there was light, and he separated light from the darkness.
In John's Gospel, the first three words are the same as the first three words in the first book of the Bible, in the beginning.
And many of you will be familiar with the words that follow John's just three.
In the beginning was the Word.
Now, it's unlikely that anyone reading those words for the first time would realize that the Word spoken of there was Jesus.
the eternal Son of God.
