Morgan catches up with Marlborough-native and acclaimed documentary filmmaker Brendan Hall on his new documentary "Out There: A Celebration of National Parks Story."
Brendan HallGuestMorgan CunninghamHostIf somebody is listening to this and they're thinking about doing this, not necessarily making a documentary, but going from national park to national park, going on a road trip, what advice would you give them?

I think my biggest piece of advice with any national park trip is to find the experience that works for you.

You know, answer the call that you're hearing in your own heart to go do this.

I think some people think they need to go to 20 national parks, but others will just go to one and really savor and appreciate that place.

Some people will hike 20 miles in a day and some people will barely get out of a car.

I think the through line for me is it's important to push your comfort zone and it's important to get out and explore something that you might not even feel as comfortable doing, but really opens you up.

to new possibilities, but I don't think you have to do it in an extreme way or a tiny way.

You know, I think it's about what trip is good for you and what is your soul just like asking you to go discover.
I'm just curious because I've been taking part myself in some solo travel experiences as time allows.
But do you ever do any solo travel or do you usually go with groups of people? Obviously, if you're solo traveling, you're traveling by yourself, but you get to meet people along the way.

But at least once a year, I try to take three or four days off my phone and get out to somewhere solo and go camping or go to an Airbnb on the water and just reset.

And even if I can do that once a year, it has an effect for months on my mental health.
So do you find when you do the digital detoxes at the very beginning, do you find that you're reaching for your phone, that you miss the connectivity, anything like that?
