Steven KotlerGUEST
47:00
I'm going to fumble around for a little while.
Steven KotlerGUEST
47:03
But I will tell you that the areas where Josh learned how to learn versus his chess player and then as a martial artist, especially in Tai Chi, which is a sort of a slower, more meditative stuff.
Steven KotlerGUEST
47:15
When you make errors in thinking, in chess you're going to lose and in tai chi push like he's going to get thrown out of the ring right because he was doing competitive the the martial version of tai chi um and you get pushed out of the ring that's how you lose in that version um and so his thinking errors were very visible to like the errors of thinking have consequences um that are that were right in his face and i think Something like that, even like me learning to think as a journalist, right? When I got something wrong, I would get fired or I wouldn't get hired again.
Steven KotlerGUEST
47:51
You know what I mean? So I think...
Steven KotlerGUEST
47:55
develop the meta skills one like i think the consequences sort of help a little bit to help you think about thinking um i also think i'm a long time meditator josh is a long time meditator and when you start getting that separation between emotion and feeling right because emotions surface first and they're automatic and feelings come second and they feel automatic and they feel like but you know like if you can get into the gap between feeling emotion and feeling you start to figure out oh wait a minute that feeling is a frame it's not exactly trustworthy it's different there's two things going on here and the minute that feeling shows up it locks me into a meaning And so when you start doing that work and you start noticing there's like there's a difference there, I think all these things are very helpful sort of on the way
Steven KotlerGUEST
49:37
I wasn't thinking about that.
Steven KotlerGUEST
49:38
That is obviously true.
Steven KotlerGUEST
49:39
I think anybody who's good at learning doesn't like I have a I don't like being bad in public so I try very hard like even with you know when I ski I try to get as far away from the chairlift like I will you know I want to iterate in the woods out of sight I think Josh was a little bit like When Josh was transitioning from Tai Chi and martial arts, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu at that point, and moving into surfing and paddle boarding, which is, you know, where he is right now, he left New York and went down to Costa Rica, right, where he doesn't really know anybody he got.
Clint SteeleGUEST

Clint SteeleGUEST

How about tai chi, qigong? How about just stretching? Walking, I like a lot as well, but speed walking might be too much for some people because it raises their heart rate too much.
Clint SteeleGUEST
40:51
But I do love walking.
Clint SteeleGUEST
