But before we get into all of that, let's go over the very basics here.
All right, so let's get the sales pitch, the elevator pitch for what horde mode actually is.
Do you like hell divers playing with your friends, just like destroying waves of enemies? Will you and your friends get together on a Saturday and drink and do some missions and just generally hang out?
That does sound like fun, but generally not the same expectation for 40k.
It's usually a more cutthroat 1v1 competitive style thing.
Horde Mode, at the end of the day, it plays a lot like a Helldivers, a COD Zombies, your classic co-op game, Left 4 Dead because I'm old now.
Right, where it's just you and your friends versus an enemy, a horde.
Notably, this means like a zombie horde, not like in 40K where horde means many small models.
This means many dumb things.
To do this on the tabletop, the enemy needs to have some AI style thought.
And it turns out we can make it really dumb and just kind of a simple checklist of do this, then that, which leads to a very zombie like mentality.
and horde mode's also nice because it's a good way to get a lot of 40k's mechanics practiced it lets you teach new players in a setting that's a lot more casual friendly and you don't feel bad giving advice to the new person you're also trying not to win too hard
yeah it is a lot easier to like actually play with the open information and like helping as opposed to being like We're going to play a game, but also I'm going to help you a lot.
So co-op definitely helps.
But also if your play group just has like a large gap between the experience on the players, like some could be playing for years and go to tournaments, but one or two other players have only really play every couple months or whatever.
It's a lot easier to have both of you team up against an opponent AI type thing as opposed to having that mismatch experience.
yes horde mode is really good for that especially as like more serious players who get a lot more reps in than the majority of our audience horde mode's nice for a place to build a fun fluffy list know that you can rely on each other and yell at each other all of the classic co-op moments and not worry too much
and uh there is an amount of narrative element this is 11th edition we're focusing on the narrative that's why crusade is gone But because it's co-op and because of how we've set up the rules where like, you know, certain things happen and there's additional rules on top of the game, there's more potential for a narrative to just like naturally expand throughout the game.
Yeah.
i'm not selling it to you because it is a free community game mode i have worked on this for far too long i have had many people help at this point it is all free for everybody to enjoy mutate to their desires go wild with it
yeah there should be links in the show notes to the discord for horde mode and hopefully also some of the like pdf rules or whatever but
