can Britain be fed by regenerative farming? And John and I were asked to talk first.

And the first thing I said was that that isn't actually a sensible question because Britain isn't feeding itself anyway.

But, you know, if you have a mixed farm, of course you're going to produce more food than if you're running, you know, growing grain to... to feed to cows which who could perfectly easily eat grass it's a no-brainer and you know and so we went on but that was so interesting was that they framed the question like that and then everybody's assumption was that you lose money and you can't and you use yield when you farm regeneratively as though the yield is all that matters but it never looks at what you're growing and whether it's food or not what is this yield anyway and and who's it for who's

Can this type of farming feed the future? You know, whether it's organic, whether it's regenerative, whether it's permaculture, you can put in any of those, you know, good farming words kind of in there.

Will that feed the future? And I think the key response to a question like that is yes.

If we're looking at high inputs, those systems only serve to make money for a very few people and have absolutely no real resilience within them.
And I'm also curious, you mentioned that the proximity of your farm is close to London, so you're hoping to get policymakers and government to attend.
Have you found if this is going to work, we need the whole ecosystem? The company I work for in my day job, we just hosted an event where we got banks and insurance companies involved.
and policymakers and farmers and retailers all in one room to try to get the ball rolling in that space.
I mean, as Joanna said, I get asked quite often to come in and talk about new entrance farming in Parliament and with DEFRA and Lantra and these organisations that are really focused on that area.
