Angela Rayner at the TUC yesterday seemed to refer to Christopher Harbourne and Ben Dilo quite bravely outside the privilege of the Commons as fascist oligarchs, and they're, they are not.

Uh, uh, we were writing, I was writing the splash intro last night on the story, and I thought, "Oh, do I need to weigh up whether Labour is trying to block, you know, Refor- Reform UK's donations here?" I thought, "No, no, that is explicitly what they are saying they are doing."

Presiding Officer, it was a welcome opportunity yesterday for me to meet with the First Ministers of Wales and Northern Ireland on the important question that Mr. Kerr raises, that the people of this country should be free to decide their own constitutional future.

And I welcome the comments that were made by the Prime Minister in the House of Commons last Wednesday when he recognized the centrality of that principle.

It is a fundamental point of self-determination, and I was glad to have the opportunity to reinforce that point yesterday.

And as for the next steps that I intend to take, well, I made it clear yesterday that I want during this parliamentary term for Scotland to have the opportunity to decide on our constitutional future through a referendum on independence, and I will make sure that the efforts of my, my own office and those of government are put to ensure that that is the case and the people of Scotland are free to decide their own future by 2031.

Yeah.

And, and the idea that the House of Commons or the Holyrood Parliament could, could come, come up with some way of controlling it seems almost fanciful.

Canada's parliament consists of the House of Commons, the Senate, and the king.

And legislation passed by Canada's elected representatives still requires royal assent before becoming law.

We're told much of this is ceremonial, okay? Then why is it required? If Canada is completely independent, why must its elected representatives pledge allegiance to a hereditary monarch? Why does the crown remain embedded in the constitutional structure of the country? Why does the king remain Canada's head of state? Why does royal assent remain part of making Canadian law? Canada became independent from Britain, on paper, but it never separated itself from the crown.

Hold that thought.

I don't know about you, but I'm gonna give this guy the benefit of the doubt and judge him entirely on what he does over the next 12 months, and I'm pretty sure, like you, I'm gonna be holding him to this, some of the very first words he said in the House of Commons at the dispatch box as our seventh Brexit prime minister.
