Kenny Albert joins Robby and Uncle Paulie for Episode 12 of Sacred Grounds. The legendary play-by-play voice of the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, MLB on Fox, NFL on Fox, and NHL on TNT shares…
Isn't that cool? Kenny, the USA Olympic gold medal games, both the men's and the women's, what was that experience like and where does that rank for you in your career?
The men, of course, the NHL players went out there in 2018 and 2022, so it was mostly amateur players.
So this was the first gold medal game that I worked on the men's side involving NHL players, and the level of play was obviously at the highest level.
It was... like watching all-star teams every game throughout the two weeks in Milan.
On the women's side, I've had the good fortune to work the gold medal games in 2002 in Salt Lake, and then again in 2018 in Pyeongchang, and 2022 remotely from Stanford, Connecticut.
Heading into these Olympics in Milan, you had the excitement of the NHL players returning on the men's side.
You had the continuing rivalry on the women's side between the U.S. and Canada.
Then as the tournament started and it moved along, A lot of us were certainly hoping for USA Canada matchup on the men's side as well.
But, you know, you know, as you guys know, that was that came really close to not happening.
On the women's side, the U.S. dominated the game against Canada during the preliminary round.
Canada had some key injuries in that game, and then the gold medal game was played on the last Thursday in Milan, and that went to overtime, and Megan Keller scored the game winner, which I'm sure a lot of your viewers have seen about a thousand times by now.
