Hannah RaineHostOkay, so basically to, to explain to those who somehow don't know, Lindsay Clancy is a woman who was charged with murdering her three small children.
She had been found ch- having, like, jumped off of, like, th- their house, uh, and severely injured by her husband, and then the husband ended up discovering the bodies of the three children.
It's really f- fucking upsetting.
And basically, the, the general defense, like, thesis is that Lindsay Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis.
Her husband has been like, "Please don't come after Lindsay.
Please don't charge her.
She's, she was deeply suffering," all this stuff.
And I don't know, I guess, like, when I heard about this case, I was kinda hoping it would bring a general awareness of postpartum as an issue to the fore.
What did you think when you heard about this case, besides horror?

I kind of chose to avoid a lot of the coverage just because I was like, I know it's gonna piss me off-
Mm

... because I don't trust the public to have, like, a nuanced or compassionate, uh, or well-rounded take on postpartum and crimes committed by mothers against children.

And so I kind of was like [laughs] I, I don't know if I can, like, deal with the rage that will be inspired by, like, me paying close attention to this, if that makes sense.

'Cause it kind of feels like one of those things that you get invested in almost, like, rage-baiting yourself.
Yeah.

Because you're like, "I know that I'm going to be unhappy with the outcome and also unhappy with the coverage of it."
I have a friend who, who I- I'm always bragging about 'cause she's a baby genius, who I'm not gonna name obviously for anonymity purposes, um, but she's probably listening.
Uh, hi doll, love you.
And-
... she has dedicated a lot of her time in school, as she works in the medical field is how I will put it, uh, to, like, studies around postpartum.
And she had told me that she's been avoiding the trial as well.
Like, she, she knows what's going on, but she, she hasn't been, like, following it very closely, 'cause I think she similarly finds it extremely upsetting.
I have, uh, been following closely just 'cause I'm also just like...
It's televised and, like, I just think the total fucking Dystopian horror of that concept to be almost impossible to bear.
