Rachel MillwardGuestWell, first of all, o- o- obviously all of our thoughts and prayers go to the Jewish community, our friends and neighbors.
But I was speaking to the Jewish Leadership Council this morning and they told me that thoughts and prayers are not enough.
As Kemi has said, uh, this is a national emergency and we now must lean into it.
What does that mean? It means, for example, there are questions about the Prevent definition.
There is a genuine question for the Home Secretary whether the Prevent definition is too narrow, whether it needs to be broadened to, uh, include this sort of, uh, attitude and approach.
I would say, well, we know that antisemitism is coursing through university campuses.
What is the Education Secretary doing to, uh, stop that? I w- as former He- Health Secretary, uh, started the work in the NHS to ensure that Jewish patients could feel safe getting the care they need and deserve, and my question to the Health Secretary is what is he doing to build on that? But there is a bigger question, I think, for us in politics as a whole.
There's a legi- legitimate question, and only today we have seen to-ing and fro-ing from, uh, Zac Polanski, the leader of the Greens, uh, and we have seen, sadly, two arrests of Green Council candidates, uh, for antisemitic comments.
And so the question for us in politics is what can we do to clear up the mess in the political arena as well as ensure that has wider ramifications against this across society? And the th- one thing I think that the Prime Minister can do to show that he gets this as a first step is to say that he will ban those marches that have been dominating our cities over months and months and months now.
Those marches of hate must be stopped and we as a society are standing with the Jewish community to say, "This is enough.
First of all, these two Green Party candidates have been arrested on suspicion of stirring up racial hatred.
They were deterred by the ... detained rather by the Metropolitan Police this morning.
