Um, and so when I started going to high streets and speaking to people, I'd realized they are not the car- caricatures that you see on Question Time.

They're not your shouty racist, you can actually have real conversations with people out there off the internet, off Question Time, and it gave me a sense of hope.

Yeah.

Three or four years ago, she gave a talk at Greenbelt, which was an utter delight and reminded me why I love Greenbelt so much to host people like Bonnie Greer.

At Greenbelt, she commented on an eventful appearance that she had on Question Time in 2009, which I remember watching at the time.

On the panel, she was placed next to Nick Griffin.

I don't know if you remember him, thankfully.

The practice of pulling someone aside, if possible privately, to address harm with compassion, respect and context rather than publicly humiliating them, which I think resonates with the teaching of Jesus about confronting a person face to face before escalating an issue of conflict and making the issue public.

Her approach, for example, seeks to de-escalate internet outrage and create spaces where people can, as they do, make mistakes, but also have the possibility to learn and organically shift their perspectives without completely crucifying them.

So rather than pulling individuals aside privately, Bonnie Greer, in contrast, believed in occupying spaces with toxic elements in order to challenge them directly in the public eye, as she did with Nick Griffin on Question Time.

That's a slightly different, well, it's a significantly different approach, but with the same aim in view.

Now, she was once described by The Observer as one of Britain's leading intellectuals, and she'll be remembered by many listeners for her frequent appearances as a panellist on current affairs shows like Newsnight Review and, of course, Question Time.

She had strong

opinions, didn't she? She had very strong opinions, but she was always open to discussing and learning about other people's opinions.

And I think that subtlety is something that made her quite a rare commentator.

After a summer dominated by scandals over the party's donations, it seems reform politicians still haven't settled on a way to discuss the issue.

On Question Time last night, Danny Kruger MP was ridiculed for suggesting that the two crypto billionaires who gave reform £72 million last week had done an admirable thing and would get nothing in return.

I think it's an admirable thing that these two men, who will get nothing for it, no peerage, no policy, they're not getting anything for it.

It's like, oh, I should have read more and memorized more poetry when I was a child.
