Beyond the Honeymoon (Waging Through Warfare week 5)

See, whether romantic or not, everyone here would agree that relationships take work.

Whether it's platonic, whether it's friendships, whether it's family, coworkers, so on and so forth, relationships take work.

It takes intentionality, it takes sacrifice, so on and so forth.

And so as you continue to build relationship with God, you must understand that you get in what you put out.

You get in what you put out in your relationship with God.

And here's the kicker: God remains faithful even when you are faithless.

And so it's not a matter of God doing more, it's a matter of you showing up to the table and doing your part.

In the beginning when you started your relationship with God, you may have read your Bible on the regular.

You may have attended every Q1.

You may have went to every Bible study, every young adults that they have from Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, so on and so forth.

You just had a fire, a passion, and a zeal for the Lord, and you just wanted to get as much of Him in you and the old out of you as possible.

And that is commendable.

That, that bit, that starts from your relationship with God.

That's your honeymoon phase.

But how many know it goes far beyond the honeymoon? We don't just follow God when it's convenient.

We don't just follow God when we're on the mountaintops.

We don't just follow God in the highs.

No, we follow Him also in the lows.

We follow Him also in the hurdles, in the hiccups, in the trials, and the tribulations.

And I think a lot of people spiritually tap out beyond the honeymoon because they expected this version of God that was always, quote-unquote, good in their eyes.

But God is good in every season, in every hardship, every hurt, every heartache, every hiccup, so on and so forth.

And if we are not properly stewarding our relationship with the Lord in this way, then when it goes beyond the honeymoon, when the sunflowers and the, and the sunshines and rainbows fade out, what remains will be very telling of your faith.

Will you continue to press on in the things of the Lord, or will you tap out of your relationship with God? Jesus addresses this type of approach to spirituality in the church of Ephesus in the Book of Revelations 2.
