The Friday Perspective (16/10/2026)

A little bit of AFL news we'll get to to finish off the program, uh, this afternoon in terms of, uh, the coaching.

First off, in the AFLW, after, I guess, resurrecting the West Coast Eagles season, Daisy Pearce has extended until twenty twenty-eight.

There was a little bit of chatter, uh, probably more rumors more than anything after the poor start by the Eagles AFLW team that, uh, she was gonna look to, to move on at the end of this season.

But, um, they've turned it around have, uh, West Coast and, uh, she has, uh, re-signed with the Eagles for a further, uh, two seasons.

Uh, the AFL, uh, W season currently, uh, in round ten.

Uh, the West Coast Eagles sitting in eleventh and, uh, take on a second place Geelong at Sullivan Logistics Stadium, uh, on Saturday and, uh, for Fremantle on Sunday.

They are up against the eighteenth place, uh, St. Kilda side at Cockburn.

Uh, Freo sitting in ninth at the moment.

So both teams still within a sniff to, uh, be in, uh, the AFLW finals for this season.

But, um, yes, both teams sitting out of the eight, uh, at the moment.

And, uh, in terms of Fremantle, if you missed the coaching news from, uh, yesterday, uh, Jeff Valentine is back as Peel Thunder coach.

Jade Rawlings will take the forwards for Freo.

Tenani Mzungu will be elevated and will take the backs and Sam Mainwaring as well as Nathan Broad will be the development coaches.

So that is the latest out of the Fremantle, uh, Dockers camp with, uh, them losing a number of their, uh, assistant coaches, uh, during, uh, the off season.

Uh, spoke about this briefly, uh, with Josh, but didn't go into too much, uh, detail.

Uh, Lachie Cowen and Wade Dirksen from the Blues, they're both facing suspensions to start the twenty twenty-seven AFL season.

Lachie Cowen suspended for the first two matches of the season for taking illicit drugs at a house party.

I think he was then called...

Uh, he then was driven in an ambulance to the hospital.

That is, I guess, how, uh, the, the club and everyone else found out.

It was, it was broader knowledge.

So the case goes again, if he didn't end up going to hospital, no one would have known and he wouldn't have been suspended, uh, in the first place.

So it always has been a really, really interesting one, the illicit drugs policy with the, the AFL and the AFL Players Association, too.

Uh, it's almost like they...

I wouldn't say they condone taking illicit drugs, but it's almost fine unless you get caught, which is, uh, it's, it's, it's a rabbit hole that they've gone down for the past seasons on end and, uh, I think they really do need to fix that.
