Uh, welcome.
Good morning.
My name's Jason.
For those of you who don't know, I'm the co-lead minister here alongside Janelle.
Most of the series has been taken from the Book of Acts, which is Luke's extension of the Gospel of Luke, where he really explores how the church grows in the first few decades of its existence.
Today, we're gonna deviate a little bit from that pattern by jumping into, uh, Paul's letter to the Roman church.
What I'm gonna do is read the passage like we usually do, and then I have some observations to share with you, and, uh, hopefully that sparks you to maybe consider your own observations from this passage.
"For by the grace given to me, I say to everyone among you not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we who are many are one body in Christ and individually have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, prophecy in proportion to faith, ministry in ministering, the teacher in teaching, the exhorter in exhort- exhortation, the giver in generosity, the leader in diligence, the compassionate in cheerfulness." Fairly well-known passage.
Uh, this is of course about gifting, and what I want to talk to you today is about the spirit as a giver.
We have talked about the spirit of action and how the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit as we sometimes refer to it, is active in the world, taking action on behalf of God's goodness and righteousness and peace, and this is no different.
