Obscure Reference Ep. 55

But first, going to talk about a little sadness we've had this week.

You know, it was a really, really rough week because we lost some really good celebrities this week.

You know, starting with Dolly Parton and just, oh my gosh, what an icon Dolly Parton was.

Not only was she an entertainer, a musician, actress, but the philanthropist and just all the causes she donated to.

So many great things she did for children, for minorities, for underserved areas of our country.

And just, you know, she's one of those people that... just you can truly say was just a genuinely good person just totally genuine and totally good and you know look at the her great works if you're talking about her movies you know the best little whorehouse in texas gosh that one's a lot of fun uh sue magnolias not as fun but still a good movie uh nine to five um really bad movie but still kind of funny rhinestone with sylvester stallone and then talk about her music you know one of the greatest songwriters of all time The fact that she wrote, I will always love you and Jolene in the same day.

I mean, that's incredible.

You know, that would be like...

I don't even know what I would equate that to.

That'd be like winning the Super Bowl and then writing Jolene in the same day.

I mean, just what an accomplishment.

And, you know...

so many great songs at 25 number one hits.

And I think my favorite of hers is love is like a butterfly.

I just, I love the way she sings that it's such a sweet song.

And then, you know, of course her iconic hits, Jolene, I will always love you nine to five, many, many work code, many colors, you know, many works, but yeah, Dolly Parton, I will say the world.

is a little dimmer, a little less bright, and a little worse off without Dolly Parton in it.

And we certainly hope she's having a good time up around them pearly gates up there.

And another icon, Tim Curry.

Man, oh gosh, I love Tim Curry.

You know, he could be goofy, he could be funny, he could be a leading man, but he was always so good as a villain, too.

You know, people don't always realize that, but he voiced the villain in...

Ferngully, The Last Rainforest, the big machine that's cutting down trees, he voiced that.

Of course, Long John Silver on Muppet Treasure Island.

I read something one time that was really funny, and it was the two best actors to appear in a Muppet movie were Michael Caine And Tim Curry.
