Optimus Prime

As you'll have seen in our last few issues, the situation on Cybertron has reached crisis point for the remaining Autobots as they struggle to reclaim their homeworld from the conquering Decepticons.

Okay, we know the situation now, and long-time readers will no doubt remember the state of play when Optimus Prime left Cybertron some four million years ago.

But what happened in those intervening years? What brought the Autobots from a situation where they were holding their own against the Decepticons to their current position? Now it can be revealed, albeit somewhat briefly.

Four million years does not condense easily into one page.

But I'm getting ahead of schedule there.

Let's finish part 6 before we worry about any of that.

The story Galvatron Begins started 20 years from the present time, when he, as Megatron, and Optimus Prime did battle.

Right where he currently stands.

You've had 40 years to know this movie.

It's the movie where Optimus Prime dies.

And like many others.

It was for his iconic role as Optimus Prime.

Peter created and brought to life the kindest and most noble leader in history.

And I will fight you.

I don't believe there will ever be anyone to quite match that tone and chivalry he created for Optimus.

Peter was and is the leader of the Autobots.

It's funny you mention that because I have a very similar view of Optimus Prime myself and that Optimus is what we would call in writing a Paragon character.

You could argue that someone like Gandalf the Grey or Captain America or...

Although our focus is mostly on the comic book rather than the cartoon, and Optimus Prime was just one of a great many voice roles that Cullen was known for, he was especially beloved by the Transformers fandom for his contributions to the franchise spanning more than four decades.

This, again, this was actually the first issue I bought with my own money that was part of my collection.

Although I'm not a huge Dinobot fan now, I have to imagine that the appearance of three of the Dinobots, that's Sledge, Grimlock, and Slag, front and center on the cover, standing out against an almost entirely green mountain-faced background... that had to be one of the reasons why this is the issue that i first picked up it really catches the eye kids love dinosaurs and this promises dinosaurs in spades

yeah yeah it's it's a it's it's a really striking cover it's a lot of fun so basically you have uh the transformers copy more than meets the eye of the transformers logo there you have the marvel the old marvel corner box with Optimus Prime standing there and sort of you're looking up at him as he's got kind of his gun cocked to the side.

mean, I'm not opposed to it.

I mean, I would say, all right, we just bought this 34-inch Optimus Prime.

It was a Target exclusive for $35.

I heard that Targets only got five each, and scalpers are all buying them all for $150, $160, and then sell them for $200 apiece.

online, which, I mean, the company doing it for big figs, it's a 33-inch Optimus Prime that has limited, it only has like 7 POA, but it's $35 for a 30-some-inch transformer.

It doesn't transform, but still, but it's in scale with your 6-inch figures, and I'm like, that shows you stuff is possibly done at large scales without having to break the bank on stuff, but you know, you have these companies that can't, that have to have crowd funds for everything because they don't want to take the risk anymore.

Maybe they need to have a big game music night, you know?

I was afraid that you was about to play the Optimus Prime truck thing real quick prematurely, and I got nervous.

What are you talking about? You know, what's funny about when you go into a game like Cincinnati and you look over and you start reviewing film, right? Their defense is playing really well.

Dexter Lawrence seems like he's playing a brand of football that they love and the reason why they paid him and brought him in.

And after the credits, they're playing a 12-minute Transformers animated film called Transformers Awakening.

And it's Peter Cullen's final Optimus Prime...
