And that's because I was born in Nashville back in the 1950s and I grew up listening to family stories and tall and sometimes cautionary tales.
So it seemed only fitting that I started adding music notes and melodies to these stories.
Over the last half century, I've written and collected quite a few story songs, and rather than have them sit buried on a shelf in dusty old music notebooks, I launched this podcast to share them and the stories behind the stories.
I've put together some musicians of all types to help me bring these stories to life and to song.
When I was growing up in the Nashville of the 1950s and 60s, there were a number of constants in my life, like faith, family, and school.
On Saturday afternoons, if I wasn't out roaming the woods with my dog Tippy, I'd be inside watching Flat and Scruggs on our cabinet black and white Motorola TV.
At some point in the program, they'd take their hats off, and we all knew what that meant.
Then, bareheaded, they launch into Angel Band or Take Me in Your Life Boat or Church in the Wildwood.
Okay, with that in mind, I'm putting on my Stetson so I can take it off for this episode's Sacred Numbers.
