It was like the nextdoor neighbor of Wilbur Post.

And by the way, back to Mr. Ed, Wilbur Post was played by Alan Young, and Mr. Ed was played by Bamboo Harvester, one of my very favorite horse names.

Wilbur Post is played by Alan Young, a British-born actor who was raised in Canada and eventually made it to New York.

He might be most famous for this, but he's probably more famous to Glenn and me for his work as Scrooge McDuck, who he started voicing in 1974 and voiced all the way through...

It's hard to believe.

Wilbur Post, an earnest architect played by Alan Young, moves into a suburban home with a barn attached, and he discovers that his golden palomino horse, Mister Ed, can actually talk.

Not just make sounds, actually talk in full sentences with plenty of opinions and schemes.

The catch was Ed's ironclad personal policy.

He would only speak to Wilbur, which meant Wilbur spent the entire run of the series tangled up in elaborate explanations for why impossible things kept happening around him, uh, while his wife and neighbors grew steadily more suspicious of his sanity.

The rich, distinctive baritone voice of Mister Ed, that was provided by actor Alan "Rocky" Lane, who was never actually credited on screen for the role.
