Jake and Mike go around the league and discuss all the other games in week 3. They discuss which quarterbacks the Giants could trade for to help while Jaxson Dart is on IR and they give their picks…
Mike TannenbaumHostThere was a list that Jordan Renard referenced about some possible QB targets for the Giants, as they need to add a quarterback to back up now Jameis Winston.
Like, I wonder if they, the Giants themselves were a little surprised about the, the news on the injury, 'cause, you know, when you hear that they waited a week, I'm starting to think, like, maybe they were holding out hope that he wasn't gonna be done for the year.
You're talking about Jimmy G, if your quarterback's out for the year, um, you're talking about a whole different level of... not level, but, uh, experience of player as if it's a week or two.
So I wonder if the delay, Jake, was them not knowing, um, you know, how long he was gonna be out for.
Jake Haener, for what it's worth, will be called up from the practice squad, and he will be the Giants backup today.
... of, like... 'Cause, uh, you know, my experience is, like, if you call a guy like Jimmy Garoppolo, he's not returning your call unless you're, you're offering him a seven-figure guarantee and making it worth his while, you know, to come out of retirement, which would be, like, a season-long, you know, commitment.
Some of the other names, Cardinals backup Gardner Minshew, Vikings third-stringer, or I guess depending on the week, could be the second-stringer, depending on Kyler Murray's status, J.J. McCarthy, 49ers backup Mac Jones, and Chiefs backup Justin Fields.
And if you're the Giants, you're paying Jameis Winston as one of the highest-paid backups in the league, I feel like you gotta ride or die with Jameis.
Well, now he's your option, because he's your backup quarterback, and you already invested in him.
They'll add someone, but I don't think it's gonna be this big name that's gonna come in and eventually replace Jameis right away.
I, I mean, like, look, I mean, the 49ers would say, like, uh, it's gonna be a first-round pick.
