Roddy de la Garza Real Estate Broker and Author interview on NEREJ NYREJ Podcast

Well, anyone that's been in the real estate industry for a number of years knows that Living check to check is not really a good idea in this industry because you will have those downturns.

Absolutely.

And if you don't have a plan for that, those checks aren't going to be coming in as frequently as they used to for that period.

That's

right.

There's always a time where you really can't count on anything until it's done.

And so that's why I've worked to always diversify where my income is coming from.

Certainly residential real estate sales is where I focus primarily in multifamily doors.

But I do not enjoy commercial.

I know that that's not my spear.

My dad was a huge commercial industrial broker.

He loved all of that kind of stuff.

To me, it feels like the Wild West.

I like the rules and the systems of residential.

And so as part of that, about in 2015 or so, I was working as a listing specialist in Dallas, Texas for Redfin.

And I had three families that we're all getting ready to add a new baby to the mix.

And they all had to sell houses at the same time too.

And I had these families saying, hey, we can't get our house ready.

You know, they've got toddlers running around, the house is messy, stuff like that.

And so I saw a niche and I was just like, hey, I could do this for them.

I could get the house ready.

I could help them paint the wall, change the fixture, do all this.

So we started a listing make ready and staging company.

So a lot of times now that's been, golly, About 12 years now.

That's a nice, sustainable, extra source of income and revenue for us.
